Working with Noble Pursuits
Noble Pursuits are always on the lookout for new land to host our metal detecting events and offer highly lucrative rates for land rental. We rent land throughout the Midlands and the wider UK, with our landowners earning an average of £400 – £1,000+ per one-day event and over £2,500 for weekend camping events. Our metal detecting events have significantly contributed to supporting Great British farming, raising hundreds of thousands for our partners. If you would prefer, we can also organize charity metal detecting events, and will even donate 25% of our own profits to your chosen cause.
Occasionally, our members unearth valuable treasures. For items valued over £1,000, landowners receive 50% of the item’s value, providing you the opportunity to get paid twice. You can discover some of the amazing finds made by Noble Pursuits members in our metal detecting finds gallery.
Renowned for our expertise in running metal detecting events, we have an excellent reputation within both agricultural and metal detecting communities. Our events are highly popular and often sell out quickly. We ensure peace of mind for our landowners with public liability insurance and written agreements. All significant finds are photographed, and we collaborate with local heritage teams to record historically important discoveries. While we manage all aspects of organising and running events, landowners and their families are welcome to participate We can even lend you some equipment to try it yourself!
We organise events to suit your schedule, operating on both weekdays and weekends. All land types are considered, regardless of historical context, as we often find extraordinary items in unexpected places. Our events typically cover 30-60 acres, but we can manage events on 15-100+ acres. For further details, please see our FAQs below or contact our team to discuss this opportunity in more detail.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can contact the Noble Pursuits team at any time via email or phone to discuss the potential of holding metal detecting events on your land. We’ll schedule a visit to assess the suitability of any suggested sites for metal detecting and parking. This will include a short test of the proposed land. If we are all happy, we’ll arrange event dates and sizes that work for both parties.
A written agreement will be given to you before hosting any events. This contract outlines your payment for the event, protocols for high-value finds, and any specific requirements or boundaries you wish to establish.
Once your event is confirmed, we promote it extensively through our Noble Pursuits Facebook group and website, ensuring maximum visibility and participation. Our events are usually very popular and sell out very fast.
Our events typically commence at 8.45am and conclude between 4-5pm. At least one organiser and admin is always on-site, with additional staff present for larger events. Our team arrives between 7 – 7.30am for any necessary checks or preparations, and paying members are instructed to arrive from 8am. Parking is supervised at all times for safety, and we use high-visibility signs to guide members.
We provide buckets for members to discard rubbish or any scrap metal they find. Organisers and admins are on-site throughout the day to ensure the event runs smoothly. All notable finds are photographed and shared on our Facebook group in real-time, or we can show them to you at the event’s conclusion. If you or your family wish to participate, you are of course welcome. We can provide metal detectors and other equipment should you wish to participate.
Payment for hosting the event is made on the same day. We offer the flexibility of cash payment on-site or a bank transfer, according to your preference.
The size of our metal detecting events is tailored to the available area for detecting and parking space. We typically pay £10 per attendee, with average events attracting 50+ people, resulting in £500+ for the landowner. But smaller and larger events are possible too, with some of our larger events attracting well over 100 people. Additionally, we may pay more for undetected lands or those with significant historical context.
We also organise weekend camping events during the drier months, ideal for larger areas with camping space. For these events, we usually offer £30 per person. These regularly attract over 100 attendees, earning landowners between £2,500 – £4,000 on average.
Repeat visits are common, particularly over arable land after they’ve been plowed, offering the potential for ongoing income from your fields.
Most types of land are suitable for metal detecting events, depending on the season. Lands we typically consider include:
- Cut or grazed pasture
- Various types of stubble
- Rolled or cultivated fields
- Freshly seeded / short crop
As we are based in Shropshire, our primary focus is events across the Midlands, but we regularly travel further afield too. Fields selected for events should either be suitable for parking or have nearby parking options within walking distance. Prior to confirming any events, we conduct a brief assessment to ensure there are potential finds for our members and that the fields are free from major contaminants.
Previous individual searchers on your fields are usually not an issue. However, we generally avoid fields that have hosted events by other groups. Bookings are typically made directly with the landowner. For tenant-held lands, we require written or verbal consent from the landowner before proceeding with any event organisation.
We organise metal detecting events all year round, accommodating both weekdays and weekends. Our events typically take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, though other weekdays can also be arranged. We can hold events in almost all weather conditions, but in very occasional cases of extreme weather, we may need to reschedule to ensure the safety of our participants.
On the rare occasion that our members discover high-value objects, our written agreement ensures you are entitled to 50% of the value of any item valued over £1,000. If such an item is declared treasure and acquired by a museum, the payment is issued by the museum service upon completion of the treasure process.
For items not qualifying as treasure or those disclaimed from the treasure process, arrangements are made privately. If either you or the finder wishes to retain the item, a buyout of the other’s share is necessary. Alternatively, the item could be sold through a specialist auction or to a private buyer. Our team, with its extensive knowledge and experience in the antiques and antiquities trade, is on hand to assist and advise you at every stage of this process.
We maintain comprehensive public liability insurance up to £5,000,000 specifically for our outdoor events. Additionally, almost all of our members are insured through the National Council for Metal Detecting (N.C.M.D), ensuring that you have complete peace of mind in knowing that we are fully covered for all eventualities.
