Ace 200i Review

The Garrett Ace 200i is the most basic entry level detector in the Garrett Ace range and is one of the cheapest detectors on our list. It may be very light on features, but its super simple to use so it’s great for newcomers or kids if you don’t want to break the bank.

It’s definitely a beginners detector, but can achieve some good depth of targets in the right conditions. The build quality feels good, it has a robust design and its comfortable to use.

It scores the lowest on our list as it doesn’t come with some key features you would expect such as headphones and a built in pinpointer. It’s not the best balanced machine so can feel heavy after long use. Its also not great at discriminating out iron either, so you will dig a lot of trash. As it doesn’t perform very well on beaches, we recommend using it predominantly as a land detector.

Overall the Garrett Ace 200i is an ok place to start your detecting journey, but its let down by very limited features and the technology feels outdated. At less than £200, its the cheapest detector on our list and the easiest to use straight out of the box. If these are your main concerns, its good enough to get you into the hobby.

If you are looking at the Garrett range, we personally suggest paying a little bit more for a 300i. For other starter detectors, its worth checking out our reviews of the Nokta Makro Simplex and Minelab Vanquish range which feature more modern technology.
