  • 👀 Not Every Find Comes From Below 👀 This Scottish carpet bowl, spotted on the surface of a field during a Noble Pursuits dig in Shropshire, is a perfect reminder: Always keep your eyes open — you never know what the land will offer up. Carpet bowls were a popular indoor pastime in the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in Scotland and northern England. Played on carpets or wooden floors, the game was a smaller, more sociable version of lawn bowls — perfect for long winter evenings when outdoor play wasn’t possible. This worn but still beautifully patterned bowl once rolled across someone's parlour, part of a game filled with laughter, rivalry, and family tradition. A lucky surface find — and a glimpse into the quieter, homelier side of history. #NoblePursuits #MetalDetecting #HistoricalFinds #CarpetBowls #UnexpectedFinds #Detectorist #SocialHistory #ScottishHistory #TreasureHunting #FindsFromTheField #ShropshireFinds #KeepYourEyesOpen #EveryFindTellsAStory #MetalDetectingUK
  • 👑 A Golden Glimpse into a Changing World 👑 This Victorian half sovereign, dated 1894, would once have been a valuable sum of money — enough to buy a month’s rent for a small house or cover several weeks’ wages for a labourer. Dropped and lost, it would have been a serious financial blow for whoever once carried it. The coin features the veiled bust of Queen Victoria, introduced in 1893 during her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. It depicted the Queen in her later years, draped and crowned, symbolising both her enduring reign and the empire she had overseen for more than six decades. The reverse shows St George slaying the dragon, the classic symbol of bravery and triumph — an image just as powerful at the sunset of the Victorian era as it was at its height. To hold this coin today is to feel the weight not just of gold, but of a changing Britain, proud and powerful — yet on the brink of a new century. #NoblePursuits #MetalDetecting #VictorianHistory #HalfSovereign #QueenVictoria #VeiledBust #HistoricalFinds #GoldCoin #TreasureHunting #Detectorist #HistoryInYourHand #ShropshireFinds #FindsFromTheField #MetalDetectingUK
  • 🗿 Shaped by Human Hands — 5,000 Years Ago 🗿 This Neolithic flint scraper, found in Norfolk, is a powerful reminder of Britain's earliest farmers, hunters, and craftworkers. Scrapers like this were essential everyday tools, used to clean animal hides, prepare food, and work wood — simple but vital for survival in the Stone Age. You can spot a worked flint by looking for key signs: 🔹 Striking platform — a flat area where the flint was struck 🔹 Bulb of percussion — a swelling below the platform from the force of the strike 🔹 Retouching — small, regular flake scars along the edges where the tool was sharpened for use This scraper shows clear percussion marks, controlled flake removal, and a finely retouched working edge — all classic features of a tool carefully shaped by a Neolithic hand. A small, unassuming find — but a real connection to human life from over 5,000 years ago. #NoblePursuits #MetalDetecting #NeolithicFinds #FlintScraper #WorkedFlint #PrehistoricTools #HistoricalFinds #StoneAge #TreasureHunting #Detectorist #HistoryInYourHand #NorfolkFinds #Archaeology #FindsFromTheField #MetalDetectingUK

  • 🍀 A Little Luck from the Land of Legends 🍀 This Joan the Wad lucky piskey, found on a Noble Pursuits dig, might not be ancient — but it carries the weight of centuries of folklore. In Cornish mythology, Joan the Wad was the Queen of the Piskeys — mischievous but often helpful spirits said to roam the moors and coastlands. Joan was a bringer of luck, guiding travellers safely through the night with her wad (a torch or bundle of light). Even into the 20th century, charms and tokens of Joan the Wad were carried to ward off evil and attract good fortune. Finds like this remind us that history isn’t just battles and kings — it’s also the enduring power of story, superstition, and belief. Myth and history are forever intertwined, just waiting to be rediscovered. #NoblePursuits #MetalDetecting #JoanTheWad #CornishFolklore #LuckyPiskey #HistoricalFinds #TreasureHunting #Detectorist #MythAndHistory #FolkloreFinds #HistoryInYourHand #FindsFromTheField #MetalDetectingUK
  • 🛎️ Service in Silver 🛎️ This silver A.R.P. badge, found in Shropshire, would have been worn by a member of the Air Raid Precautions service — the civilian volunteers who helped protect lives during bombing raids in WWII. Wardens, messengers, first aiders… ordinary people doing extraordinary things under threat of war. These badges were more than just identification — they were a mark of responsibility, courage, and community spirit. • 🧵 Threads Through Time 🧵 This medieval spindle whorl, found near Audlem on a Noble Pursuits dig, is a beautiful example of craftsmanship meeting everyday life. While many spindle whorls were plain, this one is unusually decorative, featuring a rope-style border — a fitting motif for an object used to spin fibres into thread — and traces of medieval lettering around its face. Spindle whorls were essential tools for hand-spinning wool and flax, vital to everyday survival long before mass production. They added the necessary weight and momentum to the spindle, helping the spinner create strong, even yarn. This small, worn object once turned in the hands of someone centuries ago — a tangible link between the form of the tool and the life it helped create. #NoblePursuits #MetalDetecting #SpindleWhorl #MedievalFinds #Audlem #HistoricalFinds #HandSpinning #EverydayHistory #TreasureHunting #Detectorist #RopeMotif #HistoryInYourHand #FindsFromTheField #MetalDetectingUK
  • 👑 A Coin from a King at War — and at War with Himself 👑 This George III half crown, found during a Noble Pursuits dig in Shropshire, is a tangible link to one of Britain’s most eventful reigns. George III ruled from 1760 to 1820, overseeing an era of immense change — from the loss of the American colonies to the wars against Napoleonic France. His reign shaped the nation’s history. But history also remembers "the madness of King George" — the struggles with mental illness that overshadowed his later years, leading to the establishment of the Regency under his son. A coin like this isn’t just silver; it’s a fragment of an empire, a time of turmoil, and a personal tragedy — all captured in the palm of your hand. #NoblePursuits #MetalDetecting #GeorgeIII #HalfCrown #HistoricalFinds #ShropshireFinds #TreasureHunting #Detectorist #MadnessOfKingGeorge #BritishHistory #18thCentury #SilverCoin #CoinCollectors #HistoryInYourHand #MetalDetectingUK #FindsFromTheField
  • 🗺️ The Land Beneath Our Feet — As It Once Was 🗺️ This beautiful historic map of Shropshire is more than just lines and names on parchment. It’s a connection to the past — to the people who lived, worked, and walked these same fields centuries ago. Every winding river, forgotten hamlet, and ancient boundary tells a story. Maps like this remind us that while the land endures, its inhabitants, customs, and lives have constantly shifted. Yet their traces remain — waiting to be rediscovered by the curious, the determined, and the lucky. Whether you’re swinging a detector or tracing old routes with your finger, you’re never just exploring fields. You’re stepping into a living, layered story. #Shropshire #MetalDetecting #HistoricalMaps #TreasureHunting #LocalHistory #ShropshireHistory #Detectorist #MappingThePast #OldMaps #HistoryInYourHand #FindsFromTheField #TimeTraveller #HistoricalLandscapes

🛎️ Service in Silver 🛎️ This silver A.R.P. badge, found in Shropshire, would have been worn by a member of the Air Raid Precautions service — the civilian volunteers who helped protect lives during bombing raids in WWII. Wardens, messengers, first aiders… ordinary people doing extraordinary things under threat of war. These badges were more than just identification — they were a mark of responsibility, courage, and community spirit. A small object with a big story behind it. #MetalDetecting #WWIIHistory #ARPBadge #ShropshireFinds #HistoricalFinds #CivilDefence #WW2Relics #Detectorist #TreasureHunting #HistoryInYourHand #MetalDetectingUK #HomeFrontHistory #WW2Collectibles #FindsFromTheField

🧵 Threads Through Time 🧵 This medieval spindle whorl, found near Audlem on a Noble Pursuits dig, is a beautiful example of craftsmanship meeting everyday life.

👑 A Coin from a King at War — and at War with Himself 👑 This George III half crown, found during a Noble Pursuits dig in Shropshire, is a tangible link to one of Britain’s most eventful reigns.

🗺️ The Land Beneath Our Feet — As It Once Was 🗺️ This beautiful historic map of Shropshire is more than just lines and names on parchment.
